hope_table

The name of this table is as lovely, delicate, and beautiful as the object itself. From the artist, Rafael Morgan:

“A poetical approach to remind us , young designers, that someday someone can really get our message.”

There’s none in production now but you can contact the artist directly to get more info.

Method

It isn’t new news that method brought the world of household products a bright new spritz of package design. What some may not know is method makes their products from non-toxic and environmentally friendly materials. As such they deserve a shout-out from me via this blog. While they have been known to lose out on performance against the big wigs like lysol and 409, I still feel a little more love for method. Perhaps that says something about me being a package-design whore. Or maybe they did a good job appealing to tree huggers. Either way, their cut grass air freshener scent is to-die-for, not to mention how great it looks everywhere in your home at totally awesome price. swoon Method products are available at Target stores near you.

In the mood for green? This summer there are plenty of green pillow to scratch your itch. Hable Construction carries these: moss palm wool felt applique ($265), green beans linen ($95), ivory/moss algae wool felt applique ($135). Second row are twenty2 montague ($115-$125), judy ross clover ($190), and judy ross procession ($190).

Ps. As much as I love pillows, I have yet to convince myself to spend more than $20/pillow. Such is life with doggies. *sigh.

World’s smallest and cutest fire extinguisher. I don’t love the site, but I do love their marketing campaign. Makes me want to have one in case my illegal gas grill on the patio explodes. On second thought, I might need 10 if that actually happens. Check it 29.99 Euros. (via notCot)

dosh

If you are the kind that feast on apple design, you’ll love these totally cool dosh wallets. Made of flexible polymers, these babies are as hip under water as they are on dry land. Now, if only bills weren’t made of paper, we’d be set. $49.95 AUD. Made in Australia. (via design spotter)

Shimano Coasting Bike

I first spotted this bike in some magazine some where a little while back. It was love at first sight. That takes a lot for me to say especially when the object here is a bike. All my life I have never known anyone more retarded than myself when it comes to riding a bike. Hence I tend to stay fairly disinterested in them, both as a sport and as an object. Until the smart folks at IDEO came along and flipped the “I hate bike” switch in my brain. Literally.

The concept of this bike came from the desire to create a bike that appeal to the casual commuters — people who aren’t into the complexity of the thing and would prefer to just ride for simple pleasure or to get somewhere. In the design process, it seems they’ve subscribed to a few theories from the book Law of Simplicity by John Maeda. The machanics of this bike is hidden, making it feels more simple to ride. The automatic shifting provides the functionality of a more complex bike without requiring the rider to learn on think about how it all works. The overall design is paired down to a basic form, making it feel approachable. I think they really did a great job here creating a new market for themselves in what would otherwise be thought of as saturated.

Quality user research + Lessons from past products + Creative design and engineering = Awesome bike and brand new market = $$$$ Cha Ching.

More on this from IDEO. The product is not available yet but you can follow it through Coasting website.

CB2 Crazy Linen Hamper

cb2_hamper

Just got the tall one ($79.95) to tuck neatly into the corner of our foyer as our new and improved recycling bin. I’m so done with the ugly blue bin. I’ve written a post before about the nifty idea of using hamper as recycling bins but haven’t found a decent one to go with our stuff until today. I like the linen cover and the dark gray works well. Little double stitching takes it from plain jane to cool jane. Yay. I guess it pays to wait. Inevitably some day someone will come up with exactly what you want.

Branch Lamps

The new Branch Lamps at west elm are so adorable. They remind me of a sparser version of the exquisite Soleau Forest and Shade antler lamp ($1000) but way more affordable. Table version at $79 and Floor version at $199.
