modish

I’ve been waiting to do this post for a few days now - simply because I’m speechless and I just don’t know where to begin. Modish recently started this newsletter thing where you sign up and get the low-down on indie goodies from guru jena in your email. Frankly I usually read her blog more because she writes a bit more there and she’s just thoroughly entertainingly cute. The day before my birthday I get this email from her saying that I won the monthly goodie box giveaway. Say what? .. That’s right I won all these. If only you could see me skipping like a little school girl in the office. I won a ton of goodies on my birthday?! That just rocks. Thanks Jena! You too can sign up for a chance to win by clicky here.

PS> Her header art rocks.

Dyson Root6

Just last weekend I hauled our DC14 - Animal down 3 flights of stairs to clean all the dog hair from the car. (For those who cares, it DOES works wonders - leaps and bounds better than lame old non-dyson. It’s worth the piggy bank damage) The whole time I was wishing Dyson would make a handvac. Little did I know that they actually do - only not so little. The new Root6 is a brand new and ginormous hand vac. I guess to make sure their “never lose suction” technology is in tact they have to sacrifice the size and maneuverability. For a little person like me, the DC14 is already a towering monster. I truly wonder how usable the Root6 is at this size. Retail at $149.

Holy Shit

sabre_tees

.. is the name of this tee. It is appropriate on many levels. I get a contact added note in my flickr from bloodlet1 and of course I go checkout what this cat’s all about. Low and behold the first “holy shit - that’s hot” encounter was of the photos of various illustrations. Snooping around resulted in discovering Sabre Style which leads me to “holy shit - that’s hot” part 2. Their tee collection air on the street graffitti type - quite fresh. Around 27 euro in pocket damage. Funny enough they carry a shirt labeled “holy shit”, which is my third and final encounter - my favorite pick of the bunch. Get it here.

T-Post

tpost

What is T-Post? From their site:

“Subscribing to T-Post is a lot like having a subscription to a magazine but instead of receiving magazines in your mailbox - you receive t-shirts. Every 6 weeks we design a t-shirt based on a current news item and print the shirt’s topic on the inside. You may not always hear about your t-post’s story from traditional news media but in our opinion, you should have. It’s more than a cool looking shirt. It’s something to talk about.”

The idea of wearing something that has greater meaning than the abstract graphics on the surface sounds quite appealing. Of course, if what you wear speaks to who you are as an individual, you’ll have to look deep into the perspective of the artists behind T-post to make sure what you get agrees with what you actually believe in. The commitment is 32 USD per shirt (see their website for other currencies, they deliver worldwide and the shipping cost is included). Since it is a subscription based, they’ll keep sending you new ones until you cancel.

I should point out that I picked the above photo purely because I love the graphic. Now here’s the background news of it (also from their website. it is hilarious):

“Taiwanese researchers have managed to breed pigs that glow in the dark, proving once again that everything really is made in taiwan. The fluorescent pigs are green from inside out, including their hearts and internal organs. From the outside, the pigs appear a subtle light green, particularly their eyes, mouth, and hoovers. Researchers make the pigs glow by taking an innocent little pig embryo and injecting it with protein from a jellyfish. Apparently this manipulation of pig’s natural composition will aid science in stem cell research since the pig’s green genetic material is easy to observe when introduced to cancer cells. what’s the moral of the story?

Exploit nature - live longer”

Deep thoughts, deep thoughts. Check them out.

Queen Bee

Cute (but a bit big) wallet fit for city dwellers and suburbans alike. Durable viny construction. Contrasting snappy contrasting tab. Available at Composition in various color combination for $32.

I should also add that Composition is just the perfect flash ecommerce website. It is beautiful, easy to navigate, has great brand appeal to both the store as an entity but also the products they sell. Above all, they got all the details covered - from providing direct links to the products which allows bloggers like me to hit it directly to the animation detail of how the product thumbs slide in and out (you can only do that with the easing equation - kudos to the developer of the site). I love it.

My first blog addiction, admittedly, is design*sponge. Through her writing, Grace is not just totally adorable, but also impeccably talented (she is the google of good stuff). She now has an online store where limited exclusive items can be obtained. Yum.

RedCross Tees

American Red Cross and Threadless joined force in a tee-design competition. The winning design (right) has quite a cute concept. Available here or here ($10). Portion of proceeds go to the Red Cross, of course. I personally like the vintage tees (left, $20) better. I think this will be the universal souvenior gift for friends and fam in thailand, from the USA.

Akari Light

When I first spotted these lamps, they reminded me of totoro, my favorite anime character of all time. For a paper lamp, they are cute and well-constructed. But I never thought they were worth the price tag, even with the Isamu Noguchi name attached to them. Recently I’ve just found an interesting article about these lamps that quite justify it all.

The Akari series are made by the original artisans of Gifu prefecture in Japan that had been making these beautiful lamps since the Meiji era. Available at Surroundings, among many other places, starting at $125 a pop.

Funny how a piece of object can obtain a whole new meaning when its rich history is revealed.
